Twitter, I desperately need a grouping feature!
I have about 700 followers on Twitter. A huge part of them are German speaking, a few from Sweden and some from other countries.
The more followers I gain, the more this puts me in a complicated situation: With every tweet in German, I might scare of followers who don't understand German. Sure, I could just switch to English completely, assuming that most of my followers from Germany, Switzerland and Austria do understand English as well. But my clear impression is that tweets in English get significantly less attention among my German speaking followers. And ultimately, Twitter is more fun if people actually react on what you write. Furthermore, I am blogging in German on www.netzwertig.com, linking to my articles on Twitter. Translating those tweets wouldn't make any sense. As a result, I try to keep a good balance between German and English tweets. This works as a temporary solution, but it is far from perfect. What I really wish and hope to see in the (very) near future is a grouping feature natively supported by Twitter. Sure, some Twitter clients allow for grouping people you follow, but that's not what I want. I need to be able to group my followers into at least three sections: German, Swedish and English, that I separately can tweet to. If this would be possible, I could target tweets in German only to my German followers, tweets in Swedish only to the ones who understand Swedish, and tweets in English to either all, two or only one group. Twitter is growing rapidly even outside the English speaking countries, so I assume I am not the only one with this feature request. Maybe Twitter should just launch a premium offer, charging 12 Dollar per year for additional features like that? I would pay.
